Dragon Warrior

Role playing games are certainly and over done genre in today's age but back when Enix released Dragon Warrior in 1989, the game was what could be called genre defining in many ways. For a great deal of the things that are seen in modern age RPGs were made possible in Dragon Warrior. The story takes you into a mystical land where you play a hero battling your way through multi teered kingdoms and dungeons, to save the beautiful princess (ok so not everything was original :D) but nonetheless DW showed exactly what putting in extended amounts of time on a single game could do. As there were multiple items to collect from armor upgrades, to new weapons, even new clothing can be obtained. And the baddies that you have to endure range from the weak little blobs, to witch ghosts, to GIANT SPIDERS!!!! It was a prelude to many later successful Enix RPGs such as Crono Trigger and Crono Cross, but Dragon Warrior will always be the best in my eyes, I give it a 5 out of 5.
